In this beautiful rug, four evenly spaced borders surround four central stars, each with a different tonality. These stars are in turn surrounded by smaller motifs of animals, stars, wheels of life and other ancient geometric devices. The use of colour, and particularly abrash, in this rug points to a weaver of exceptional skill who has given this rug a sense of delicate, yet powerful balance. Condition, age and beauty combine to make this rug exceptional.
Antique Kuba Caucasian rugs are some of the most prized and collectible rugs from the Caucasus region, specifically woven around the town of Kuba (also spelled Quba) in what is today Azerbaijan. High-quality, lustrous wool is used, both for pile and foundation. This rug has an excellent length pile all over, with no worn areas. There are some marks as well as a sewn band along one edge on the reverse of the rug, however these do not affect the front. In overall excellent condition.
