Antique Shirvan Kilim

This Shirvan antique kilim was carefully woven in the Caucasus in the 19th century (approx. 1880).

The Shirvan region is located between what was then northern Persia and the Caspian Sea region. Kilims and carpets woven in and around Shirvan are considered to be some of the finest in the Caucasus. Antique carpets and kilims are handmade with natural dyes and hand-spun wool. This handmade process produces subtle differences in colour.

 

The soft shades go well with modern and traditional interiors. The blue, yellow and red colours give this kilim an elegant and luxurious look. It is decorated with hexagonal and octagonal motifs.
