The Ersari are a predominantly agricultural people living in the Amu Darya valley of Turkmenistan.The variety of deep blue and red colours gives the carpet an elegant and luxurious look. The main octagonal motif (Gol) represents the sun and stars and is surrounded by flower motifs, while the outer edge of the carpet is decorated with geometric patterns and star motifs.

 

This antique carpet has been well restored in some areas. There are some minor repairs to the outer edge, but for a carpet that was woven and used some 140 years ago, it is in very good condition and is a beautiful, high quality carpet that will match most interiors, including traditional and modern.
