カラバフのアンティークカーペットは、その色彩の美しさで有名で、コレクターやインテリアデザイナーに人気があります。この巧みな技術で丁寧に織られたカーペットは、コーカサス地方のカーペットの中で最も古く、最も伝統で多様なデザインの一つです。このカーペットはコーカサス地方の南東部、カザーク地区に近いところで織られ、南はペルシャと国境を接しています。高いデザイン性と品質で、この地域で最も優れたカーペットの一つとされています。カラバフカーペットは、2列の結び目の間に2本の緯糸を使用し織られています。
この美しいカーペットは、深いブルーのメインフィールドに、鳥、馬、アンテロープなど様々な動物のモチーフが色と大きさを変えながら描かれており、それらが交互に並んでいます。中央には、おそらく織り手である女性が描かれ、その傍らには小さな犬のモチーフがあります。おそらく彼女は山の牧草地を歩きながら、自然の恵みを観察し、自然界の中での私たちの位置を感じ取っているのでしょう。

Famous for their celebration of colour, antique Karabagh rugs are eagerly sought after by collectors and interior designers. The skillfully made rugs have one of the oldest and most varied design traditions of any Caucasian rugs. These rugs were woven in south-eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district and bordering Persia to the south. They are considered exemplary in design and quality and are among the best in the region. Karabagh rugs utilize double weft strands between each two rows of knots.
 
In this wonderful carpet, the main field of deep blue is filled with various animal motifs including birds, horses, and antelopes that parade in alternating lines of colour and size. In the centre a woman in drawn, perhaps the weaver herself, alongside a small figure of her dog. Perhaps she is walking through mountain pastures, observing all of natures bounty and sensing our place within the natural world.
 
This is a truly wonderful carpet with a rare theme and demonstrates the amazing artistry and humour of the weaver. Woven around 1900-1920, this rug is in excellent condition for its age and is complete with woven fringes.
